About

Elaine E. Sutherland joined the School of Law at Stirling University in 2006 to take up the post as Professor of Child and Family Law. She teaches and researches at Stirling for half of the year (January to June) and spends the other half of the year doing much the same at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon.

She is currently working on a number of projects, including,

  • The final stages of editing The Future of Child and Family Law: International Predictions (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming August 2012), a 14 chapter book examining developments in various countries around the world. For further details of the book, click on the link above.
  • Writing the new edition of Family Lawbasics which will be published by W. Green in 2013.
  • Writing the Scottish chapter for the International Survey of Family Law: 2013 edition, which will be published by Jordans in 2013.

General:

Comparing the impact of the European Convention on Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, on child and family law, in general, and children's rights, in particular, with that of the U.S. Constitution, the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, in these areas.
